We are actively looking for motivated graduate students. See below for information about life in Tokyo and available scholarship opportunities.

Currently, we do not have any postdoctoral openings. However, postdoctoral researchers with external scholarships or fellowships are welcome to inquire. JSPS is also inviting applications for fellowships https://www.jsps.go.jp/english/e-inv_researchers/index.html.

Those interested in joining the group should contact Takashi Tsuchimochi at tsuchimo@shibaura-it.ac.jp.

Important notice for prospective Ph.D./Master students: All applicants must undergo a pre-consultation process before officially submitting their application to the admission office. For international students, this may take a week or two to be completed due to the security export control requested by the Japanese government. Accordingly, we strongly encourage you to plan ahead. Check the website of our admission office for more details. https://www.shibaura-it.ac.jp/en/study/graduate/Pre-consultation.html

Scholarships in Japan: There are several opportunities for financial support for study in Japan as a master/Ph.D. Student.

  1. SIT offers a fully funded scholarship comparable in scale to the MEXT scholarship to international Ph.D. students each fiscal year. Under the university’s strong commitment to fostering doctoral education in recent years, up to one international student per laboratory may be awarded this scholarship in each doctoral year (D1, D2, and D3), and the chance is very high. Currently, there is open
[2024 Fall] SIT Scholarship for Foreign Graduate Student
  2. SIT now provides the SPRING fellowship for 4-5 new Ph.D. students, generously supported by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The fellowship includes a stipend of about 2M JPY (enough for living expense in Tokyo) and a research fund of about 0.5M JPY, each year.
  3. MEXT scholarship fully covers your stipend and tuition during your study. It also supports your travel expenses to Tokyo. There are two ways for applying for this scholarship. The first option is to be nominated by the Japan embassy in your country, and it may be very competitive. The second option is to be recommended by SIT, after enough experience of collaborative research with us through, for example, research internship in our group.

  4. Our group also may have an independent research assistantship depending on the funding situation. Contact us for more details.
